HOME SECURITY TIPS

Read the top 10 tips to avoid being burgled from the WA Police

Consider these additional tips:

  • fit security locks/deadbolts on all external doors
  • install a peephole in your front door
  • install motion-detecting lights on your house perimeter
  • install a security alarm (preferably a monitored system)
  • keep shrubs trimmed around windows and doors
  • get a dog (or a motion-sensitive recording of a dog)
  • hide valuables where they can’t be found
  • mark equipment such as fridges, freezers, TVs, laptops, iPads, PCs, jewellery, etc
  • consider smart locks (locks with no keys to lose)
  • keep your doors locked at all times, particularly when watching TV
  • teach children NOT to answer the door
  • meet and get to know your neighbours – even the nosy ones
  • eliminate hiding places
  • be careful who you allow into your home
  • limit access to your property
  • be suspicious of door-knockers and telemarketers

Make it less attractive

  • close the blinds when going out so thieves can’t go window shopping
  • keep valuables (such as jewellery) out of sight
  • have someone put your bins out/take them in while away
  • have someone remove flyers while away
  • install dummy CCTV cameras

REMEMBER…IT'S NOT JUST A HOUSE BUT YOUR HOME - PROTECT IT
